BEGINNER
Tuesdays & Thursdays, October 2 – December 9 (no class November 27), 12:30 – 2:30 pm (38 hours)
Instructor: Major
In this class, for the basic beginner, students will learn the fundamentals of English grammar, gain the language necessary to complete everyday tasks (such as shopping for food and clothing, ordering in restaurants, using public transportation and requesting repairs) and begin to explore basic written communication and conversation.
INTERMEDIATE
Tuesdays & Thursdays, October 2 - December 9 (no class November 27), 10:00 am – 12:00 pm (38 hours)
Instructor: Major
In this class students will learn to speak more fluently, start to ‘think in English’, express opinions, increase their vocabulary, learn more complex grammar and idioms, improve writing skills and improve pronunciation. Stories, articles and daily conversations will introduce students to American customs and life.
INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED
Tuesdays & Thursdays, October 2 - December 9 (no class November 27), 3:00 – 5:00 pm (38 hours)
Instructor: Major
In this class advanced students will refine their spoken English expression and writing skills. Emphasis will be on the nuances of the English language, advanced idioms, American humor and conversation styles. Students will have opportunities to practice meaningful conversations, discuss literature, and debate points of view, providing skills for fluent interaction with native speakers.
About the instructor...
Ms. Katherine Major graduated from Vassar College, has a Masters Degree in Special Education from Butler and Purdue Universities and an ESL Certification from The New School. She has taught English for over seven years at several locations, including LaGuardia Community College and Cabrini Immigrant Services. She previously worked as an executive for Citigroup and IBM Corporation.
