Douglas McGray, Writer & Fellow, New America Foundation; author, “ Japan’s Gross National Cool.” Doug writes about social and political issues, international affairs, technology, and culture. His work appears in such publications as The New York Times Magazine, The Atlantic Monthly, Wired, Mother Jones, The Economist, Travel + Leisure, Metropolis, The Washington Post Magazine, Fast Company, Daedalus, and Foreign Policy, where he is a contributing writer. His Foreign Policy essay " Japan's Gross National Cool" was the subject of a TIME Asia cover story and a profile in the "Year in Ideas" issue of the New York Times Magazine. Previously a features editor at Foreign Policy, Doug was an original architect of its transformation from a quarterly academic journal into an award-winning, bimonthly magazine. He has also appeared as a commentator on NHK, CNN and the Charlie Rose Show. He was a Fellow of the Japan Society’s United States-Japan Foundation Media Fellows Program. Doug studied history and international affairs at Brown University.
