The Japanese-language Teacher Training Follow-Up Program, a 30-hour, once a week teacher training session for native or fluent speakers of Japanese, is designed as a continuation of our springtime Teacher Training Program. It gives those who have either taken the springtime course, or those who have had some previous experience in teaching the Japanese language, the skills to teach Japanese at an intermediate level. Participants who complete this program may have the opportunity to become teaching assistants at the Toyota Language Center.

Students will be required to create, demonstrate and discuss original lesson plans. Through the act of carrying out and then later discussing these mock lesson plans, students will both learn and enhance their own technique for developing effective lesson plans. Proper explanation of Japanese grammar and the effective use of textbooks will also be covered. This course will meet every Tuesday, from October 7 through December 9, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.

The instructors of this course have extensive experience teaching Japanese at the intermediate levels.

Ms. Yuko Aizawa has taught at the Sendagaya Japanese Institute in Tokyo, Japan and at the Royal
Hawaiian Academy in the United States. She has been teaching at the Japan Society since 1994.

Ms. Mami Miyashita earned a Japanese Teaching License in Japan, a certificate of Teaching Japanese as a Foreign Language from Ohio State University and a Master’s Degree from West Chester University. She has been involved with foreign language education for more than nineteen years, most recently at the University of Delaware from 1999 to 2005.
