What Members Are Saying:

"As Friends of the Gallery at Japan Society, we are part of a dynamic community that shares a passion for Japanese art of all periods, old and new. We are thrilled that Joe Earle has become Director of the Gallery and look forward to offering him our support as he works to create an excellent and varied program of exhibitions ranging from Zen painting to the lacquers of Shibata Zeshin to the latest in bamboo sculpture and more. As Friends of the Gallery, we are always learning new things, seeing new areas of art, and meeting friendly and interesting people."

"It is always with great anticipation that I approach each exhibition presented at Japan Society Gallery. Entering the building, climbing the stairs and then entering the galleries, I am continually surprised by the remarkable air of tranquility and sense of beauty that pervades this special place. With an enviable roster of ground-breaking shows enhanced by repeatedly beautiful and creative installations, JSG remains at the forefront for presentations of ancient through contemporary Japanese art in this country."

Invitation from Joe Earle, Vice President, Japan Society & Director of the Gallery

For more than three decades, Japan Society Gallery has created or hosted many of the most engaging and beautiful exhibitions of Japanese art held in the United States. As newly appointed Director of the Gallery, I invite you to help me maintain and extend this great cultural tradition by becoming a Friend of Japan Society Gallery or joining the Leadership Committee for one of our upcoming exhibitions.

The Friends of Japan Society Gallery receive a range of benefits including special previews, tours of private art collections, and studio visits with contemporary Japanese artists. More important than that, they provide essential long-term support for Japan Society’s visual arts program and ensure its ongoing status as a vital center of the international Asian art world.

You can play a still more pivotal role in the life of Japan Society by joining the Leadership Committee for a specific exhibition project. In addition to being prominently recognized, if they wish, in all printed and display materials, Leadership Committee members enjoy exclusive access to private events associated with each exhibition and have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge and understanding of Japanese art by meeting curators, lenders, and artists.

For more information on either program, please contact Karen Sorensen, Director of Individual Giving, at (212) 715-1261 or ksorensen@japansociety.org, or call me directly at (212) 715-1283.

Thank you so much for your support.

Sincerely,

Joe Earle
