The Japan Society Toyota Language Center is pleased to offer four-day Intensive Japanese Weekend Courses. These are concentrated courses designed to teach beginners basic conversational skills. They will be useful to people with traveling difficulties or scheduling problems, or who were too late to register or missed too many of our regular classes. They are also meant for people who are planning to travel or move to Japan. The textbook used in all classes is Japanese for Busy People, Volume I (Revised 3rd Edition: Romanized), edited by AJALT, and will be available at the Japan Society at the discounted price of $25. Students can move from these courses into our weekday classes with a minimum of difficulty.

Weekend Course 1
For students with no previous background in Japanese. The vocabulary and dialogues in the first half of Japanese for Busy People Vol. I will be covered.

Weekend Course 2
For students with some background in Japanese. The course will review the first half of Japanese for Busy People Vol. I and then concentrate on lessons 8 through 16.

Weekend Course 3
This course will cover lessons 17 through 25 of Japanese for Busy People Vol. I.

All courses meet for four days on two consecutive weekends:
June 14, 15, 21 & 22 from 11 am to 4:30 pm, for a total of 18 hours of instruction. There will be an hour break for lunch from 1 to 2 pm.

Instructors: All of the Society's instructors are native Japanese with extensive experience.

Ms. Yuko Aizawa has taught at the Sendagaya Japanese Institute in Tokyo, Japan and at the Royal Hawaiian Academy in the United States. She has been an instructor at the Toyota Language Center since 1994.

Ms. Reiko Akai
has a Bachelor’s Degree in Linguistics, and has worked in the private sector in Japan. She has taught English and Japanese in Japan, and has been a private tutor of Japanese in the United States for five years.

Ms. Keiko Hama has taught Japanese in Germany and the US for over ten years. She received her Master’s Degree in Japanese Sociology and Linguistics at the University of Heidelberg. Since then, she has been an interpreter, translator and Japanese teacher in the private and public sectors.

Ms. Eiko Ishioka has a Master’s Degree in Foreign Language and Literature from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She has been teaching Japanese at several institutions in the United States for five years, most recently at University of Wisconsin at Madison.

Ms. Mami Miyashita
earned a Japanese Teaching License in Japan, a certificate of Teaching Japanese as a Foreign Language from Ohio State University and a Master’s Degree from West Chester University. She has been involved with foreign language education for more than nineteen years, most recently at the University of Delaware from 1999 to 2005.

Ms. Hiromi Noguchi has a Master’s Degree. in Teaching a Foreign Language, Japanese, from the Monterey Institute of International Studies in California, and a Doctor’s degree in Applied Linguistics from the Teacher’s College, Columbia University. She has taught Japanese at Columbia and at the Monterey Institute of International Studies.
