Development Associate
The Development Associate provides the administrative backbone for Individual and Corporate giving, ensuring the smooth operation of all aspects of Japan Society’s membership and gift programs, including renewals, gift processing, data entry and recordkeeping, handling of member queries via phone, and research.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Manage daily membership operations, including the timely processing of Individual and Corporate renewals, upgrades, gift acknowledgements and solicitation materials, with follow-up by phone when necessary.
• Field inquiries via Individual and Corporate membership phone lines, email inboxes, providing member service/troubleshooting as necessary, while referring more complex inquiries to appropriate Japan Society staff.
• Fulfill Individual and Corporate member benefit obligations and requests, including complimentary catalogues, gallery passes and Executive Courtesy Cards.
• Track cultivation and stewardship of Individual and Corporate prospects in Raiser’s Edge; update Individual and Corporate member records on Raiser’s Edge as needed.
• Help research and identify new membership and donor prospects in consultation with Managers of Individual and Corporate Giving.
• Perform daily website uploads and Convio updates.
• Follow up on returned mail and file all copies of correspondence as needed.
• Support Special Events and Annual Dinner as required.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years related development administration experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be a flexible and detail-oriented team player with ability to multitask. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, and strong written, oral and intercultural communication skills are essential. Experience with database processing (preferably Raiser’s Edge—including the building of queries and custom reports, and prospect tracking utilities) required. Knowledge of Japanese culture a plus.

Director of Corporate Giving
The Director of Corporate Giving will oversee and advance all aspects of corporate giving, including maintenance of existing accounts, identifying prospects, and recruiting new corporate members and sponsors. The Director will collaborate with senior management to design and implement effective strategies to increase corporate giving, and be an integral part of the Development Team, working hands-on with program areas and Special Events on cultivation events, as well as fund raising campaigns and the annual dinner.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Serve as the frontline for corporate membership, overseeing monthly renewals, upgrade and solicitation materials, telephone and email inquiries, and providing customer service/troubleshooting.
• Research and identify corporate member prospects; create and implement cultivation strategies to increase overall corporate membership revenues through upgrades, new memberships and cross-selling opportunities such as rentals, Webcast services, and program sponsorships.
• In coordination with program areas, research and identify potential corporate sponsors for gallery exhibitions, film, performing arts, education, corporate, policy and other program areas as appropriate.
• Work with the Media and Marketing team on corporate membership-related collateral materials, including membership-related aspects of Japan Society’s website and online presence.
• Collaborate with program areas and Special Events on cultivation events, fund raising campaigns and the annual dinner.
• Conduct cultivation visits with existing and potential donors, and cultivate members at Japan Society programs on a regular basis throughout the year.
• Fulfill corporate member and sponsor benefit obligations and requests, including complimentary gallery passes, Executive Courtesy Cards, complimentary catalogues and invitations to programs and openings.
• Manage annual revenue budgets and forecasts.
• Oversee data entry in Raiser’s Edge related to corporate members and sponsors and corporate prospects.
• Prepare correspondence, marketing materials and related documents, including proposals, acknowledgement letters, benefits and report drafts.
• Oversee credit lines of corporate sponsors in coordination with Director of Foundation Relations.
• Oversee airline contracts and ticket usage and report to Finance Department as needed.
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree and a minimum of six to eight years corporate membership program management/fundraising experience. Spoken Japanese and knowledge of Japanese culture required. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in successfully cultivating and soliciting corporate partners; superior written, verbal, and intercultural communication skills; accomplished skills in networking and building external relationships; and excellent interpersonal and presentation skills. Must be a hands-on, resourceful team player with experience managing staff and building consensus. Experience with database processing (preferably Raiser’s Edge) required. Must be willing to work evenings and weekends as necessary.

Director of Individual Giving
The Director of Individual Giving will oversee and advance all aspects of individual membership and giving, including individual gift processing, membership renewals, member events and benefits, and annual fundraising campaigns. The Director will collaborate with senior management to design and implement effective strategies to increase individual giving, and be an integral part of the Development Team, working hands-on with program areas and Special Events to develop and maintain all levels of individual memberships, including cultivation of high-level individual donors.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Serve as the frontline for individual membership, overseeing daily membership operations, including managing membership sales, fielding telephone and email inquiries, and providing customer service/troubleshooting.
• Manage high-category membership operations, including the processing of gift acknowledgements, fulfillment of membership benefits, and maintenance of the monthly renewal cycle.
• Compose, prepare, and disseminate direct member correspondence, materials, and messaging tools.
• Manage Annual Fund, Board, and membership acquisition appeals, and develop new cultivation strategies to increase overall membership levels.
• Manage annual revenue budgets and forecasts.
• Identify and research individual donor prospects, and work with program directors to prepare major gift solicitations.
• Conduct cultivation visits with existing and potential donors, and cultivate donors at Japan Society programs on a regular basis throughout the year.
• Develop reports and statistics to monitor the results of appeals and campaigns, tracking progress toward annual Individual Giving goals.
• Generate donor recognition lists for Japan Society’s Annual Report, exhibition catalogues, and other promotional materials.
• Work with Special Events team and program directors on the planning and execution of member recognition, engagement, and cultivation events.
• Work with Media and Marketing team on the development and production of all membership-related collateral, including membership-related aspects of Japan Society’s website/online donation forms.
• Negotiate and publicize special offers, incentives, and discounts for members.

Museum Educator
The Japan Society Education Program seeks a per diem Museum Educator with a background in Art History & Education and a strong interest in Japan.
Responsibilities: Reporting to the Education & Lecture Program Officer, the educator will conduct pre-K-12th grade gallery lessons and assist at gallery-related family & student programs. Gallery lessons consist of object-centered guided discussions, planned in collaboration with teachers and group coordinators to provide students with opportunities for artistic, cultural and personal discovery and to support learning across the curriculum. In each lesson, the educator will encourage students to observe, investigate and discuss a number of selected objects in the exhibition; non-verbal response activities are also included; such as drawing, writing and movement assignments.
Requirements: Knowledge of Art History, current Museum Education theories and practices, teaching experience with children.
Availability: Training schedule: evenings in February –March. Work schedule: mornings Tuesday-Friday and select weekends, March 12 -June15, 2010.
