Kabuki Dance Workshop

Experience kabuki dance (nihon buyo) with Bando Kotoji, master dancer of The Bando School of Japanese traditional dance. Together with Bando, participants in this workshop will learn everything from basic kabuki dance footwork and fundamental techniques, to a simple dance piece from the traditional repertory. Participants will have the opportunity to work with a fan as well as practice typical female and male character gestures found in this unique and beautiful art form.

Please wear comfortable clothing and bring a pair of socks. Maximum 24 people.

Some physical performance experience is preferred.

The five-city East Coast tour of the Kabuki Dance program is organized by Japan Society and funded by The Japan Foundation in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Japan’s gift of cherry trees to Washington, DC and New York City.
