Losing Its Edge? Evans Revere on How Japan Can Remain a Leader & America’s Closest Partner in East Asia
Evening Panel
Thursday, December 1, 6 PM —
8 PM
Has Japan lost its mojo? Former American diplomat and renowned Asia expert Evans Revere addresses the notion that Japan's domestic politics, the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, China's rise, and the strengthening of U.S.-South Korea relations have prompted Japan to turn inward, making Tokyo less of a driving force in the region's security calculus and a less important partner for the United States. Is South Korea supplanting Japan as America's ally of choice in Northeast Asia? Is China taking Japan less seriously? Evans's talk will focus on the role that Japan should play in Northeast Asia as the region goes through a major power shift.
