Since its first screening in 1922, Japan Society’s Film Program has become the leading pioneer in introducing Japan’s rich and diverse films to American audiences, often providing English subtitles for films that have never been screened outside Japan. From retrospectives of classics by seminal film-makers and thematic series to large-scale film festivals featuring international, U.S. and New York premieres of the most current releases, the Film Program has something to enchant everyone.

Friends of Film are avid film-lovers who celebrate Japan’s film-making industry from blockbusters to indies. Members are offered invitations to intimate Q&A sessions with prominent film directors and special screenings, among other film-related events.
