Japonisumu of Paper: Kirié

The Noguchi Museum is pleased to welcome guest artist, Mr. Shu Kubo, who will lead his second art making workshop at the Museum in the techniques of Kirié, the Japanese art of paper cutting. Mr. Kubo is on a special visit to the United States this winter as a cultural ambassador of the Consulate-General of Japan in New York. During the workshop, participants will consider Noguchi's exploration of line, light and shadow, as they transform paper's two dimensions, into three. This is a free event for adults and teens.

We’re adding this to the calendar due to the rise in popularity of Flamenco in Japan. Two week Flamenco Festival features Spain’s finest in several amazing performances: returning favorite dancers– Rocío Molina, María Pagés, Pastora Galván, Manuel Liñán, and Israel Galván – as well as artists who will be making their first appearance here: the stunning dancer Belén López (NY debut); guitar maestro José Antonio Rodríguez (US solo debut); the cutting-edge flamenco fusion party band Canteca de Macao (US debut); and the captivating vocalist Marina Heredia and the Chekara Arab-Andalusian Orchestra of Tetouan (US debut) in their first collaboration.
