EVENTS
The Blue Bird
by Mikuni Yanaihara
January 7 - 24, 2009 Clemente Soto Velez
107 Suffolk Street (New York City)
Blurring the lines between dance and theater, and including aspects of installation art, live video, and improvisation, Witness Relocation presents the American premiere of The Blue Bird. This genre-busting work riffs on a Japanese play by Mikuni Yanaihara about scientific conundrums, the rescue of endangered species and the search for one's personal blue bird. The production is part of Spotlight Japan, a festival of New Japanese Plays which is being presented in conjunction with the CUNY Graduate Center, with support from The Japan Foundation NY.

The exhibition “Night Light” is a collection of nighttime photographs taken on the streets of Kyoto, Tokyo, and New York, in addition to images from the new book Blue Nights: Photographs by George Hirose with an Introduction by Norman Mailer. Shot over the last four years, Hirose has created evocative and haunting images which contrast the present with the past.
A second generation Japanese-American, this show is a tribute to the photographer's heritage, as well as to New York City where he resides. Utilizing long exposures; luscious colors, streaks of light, and isolated vignettes combine for a unique visualization of the places he photographs.
