Course Schedule


Classes fill up quickly! To guarantee a seat in the class, please register as soon as possible.

The curriculum is conversation-intensive, with the aim of strengthening the student’s ability to communicate effectively in social situations. The materials used will emphasize the vocabulary and grammar useful in everyday activities. Each class meets twice a week for a total of 18 hours of instruction. 

Beginner Conversation: For students who have finished Level 1 or 2 of our regular Japanese Courses, or equivalent. For students with some background in Japanese. Some social/situational survival skills will also be introduced.

Advanced-Beginner Conversation
: For students who have finished Level 3 or 4 of our regular Japanese Courses, or equivalent. The course will focus on skills needed to survive in Japan. Frequently used expressions will be practiced in context.

Intermediate Conversation
: For students who have finished Level 5, 6 or 7 of our regular Japanese Courses, or equivalent. The course will focus on strengthening speaking skills by having students engage in various exercises.

Advanced-Intermediate Conversation
: For students who have finished Level 8, 9 or 10 of our regular Japanese Courses, or equivalent. The course will emphasize role-playing by the students in different social and business situations. The focus will be on maintaining a conversation and learning and using situational vocabulary.

Advanced Conversation: For students who have finished Level 11 of our regular Japanese Courses and higher. In this class students will watch short dramas and discuss them. Emphasis will be on idiomatic and colloquial expressions.

Instructors

Ms. Naoko Sourial is a graduate of Columbia University, where she obtained her Master of Arts in Japanese Pedagogy. She has taught English and Japanese in both the United States and Japan. She has taught Japanese at New York University and Baruch College (CUNY) and currently teaches at Columbia University.

Tuition is non-refundable and non-transferable (including for credit) for any reason after 12 PM, the business day before your first class.  All refunds, including those requested by the deadline date, are subject to a $20 service charge. Cancellations are accepted by phone or in person only; e-mail cancellations are not accepted.
