Overview
Dogugaeshi Puppet
Established in 1953, the Performing Arts Program has introduced audiences to Japan's contemporary performance scene as well as its traditional dance, music and theater through more than 500 individual programs. Highlights include premiere presentations of the Grand Kabuki to the popular annual Contemporary Japanese Dance Showcase. A recent commission, the Bessie Award-winning Dogugaeshi by puppet master Basil Twist, toured Japan in 2007 as part of Japan Society's centennial celebration.

Spring 2008: New York Woman
The New York-based Japanese women artists featured this season shatter the stereotype of the “Japanese woman” as subservient and quietly humble. With bold ferocity and poetic imagination, they have sculpted individual artistic visions that weave into the diverse cultural landscape of the extraordinary city we call New York.
