Japan Society’s 2012 Annual Dinner will be held on Thursday, June 7 at The Waldorf=Astoria in New York City. We are pleased to announce that David M. Rubenstein, Co-Founder & Managing Director of The Carlyle Group, will deliver the keynote speech. The Japan Society Award will be presented to Carlos Ghosn, President & CEO of Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. and artist Hiroshi Sugimoto. Gillian Tett, US Managing Editor for the Financial Times will serve as Master of Ceremonies and interlocutor with Mr. Rubenstein. 2011 Annual Dinner Overview
Nearly 700 guests gathered at the Waldorf-Astoria on May 24 for the 2011 Annual Dinner. James P. Gorman, President & CEO, Morgan Stanley, gave the keynote address, which was followed by a Q&A session with Maria Bartiromo, Anchor, CNBC. Ms. Bartiromo also served as Master of Ceremonies. Maestro Seiji Ozawa, renowned conductor, presented a heartfelt video message from Japan and received the first 2011 Japan Society Award. After singer, songwriter and pianist Akiko Yano charmed the audience with a performance, the evening ended with entertaining remarks from baseball legend Bobby Valentine, who was presented with the second 2011 Japan Society Award.
