Innovators Network

Chihiro Nishimoto, CEO, Japan Area Management

Nishimoto joined Ex Research Institute as a research assistant in 2002, and the following year, she had an internship at the Shotengai (local shopping district) Network. In 2004, she received awards as a co-author of two research papers: The End of Japanese Style Community Revitalization and The Key to Regional Revitalization. In April 2005, she started a voluntary organization, which she incorporated as the Japan Area Management (JAM) in September. JAM’s goal is to strengthen downtown areas as the center of community life. JAM is commissioned by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and serves as the secretariat to organize strategic committees that revitalize city centers. The committees convene at major shopping districts located in seven big cities all over Japan. She is also a staff member at the Center for Downtown Revitalization, founded by the Small and Medium Enterprise Agency. Nishimoto is a graduate of Saitama University, where she majored in environmental planning.
