Keito Kohara (小原啓渡) - Producer, artcomplex group

After dropping out of Doshisha Unviersity, Kohara entered the theatre world as a lightning technician. In 1999, he established artcomplex 1928 using the former office building of Mainichi Newspaper located in Sanjo, Kyoto. Afterwards he became a theatre producer. In 2003, he created Artist in Residence Kyoto, a facility aimed to help create an environment for artists to focus on their work. That same year, in collaboration with a securities company, Kohara began funding cultural activities. Investors provided money to support theatrical productions and received dividends when there was a profit. Since 2004, he has been holding the “Namura Art Meeting” at a former shipbuilding yard called Namura in Suminoe Ward, Osaka. In 2005, he opened a bar and salon called AC depth in Fukushima ward, Osaka. Then he established Creative Center Osaka and opened the art space Black Chamber at the Namura former shipbuilding yard. In 2007, he added a music studio. Due to his contribution to community revitalization and cultural activities, Kohara received the New Power Award for the Kansai area in 2005. Then in 2006, when it became possible for designated administrators to run public cultural institutions, Kohara applied for a position at the Osaka City Art Space and was chosen as the first private administrator as Director of Art Space. He is the author of 50 Creators Speak About Their Origin of Creativity (Ronso-sha). In addition, he is a Managing Director of Ridge Creative Corporation, artcomplex, KSGBWP, and serves as the Representative for Artist in Residence Kyoto, Board Member of Dance Box (NPO), Editor of P.A.N Press, General Producer of Creative Center Osaka, Chief Organizer of Art Support LLP. He was born in Hyogo Prefecture.
