Masayuki Yamanaka, CEO, Japan Association for Educational Innovation

Since Yamanaka was in high school, he wanted to become a high school teacher. He decided that he needed a wider perspective and different types of experiences and travelled to 13 countries for 2 years. While travelling, he started to question the educational system in Japan, which has heavy emphasis on entrance exams. After returning to Japan, he worked for a major corporation, which dealt with education, for three years. In 2001, he started Japan Association for Educational Innovation (JAE). His goal is to encourage young people to have dreams and the motivation to achieve their dreams. He also teaches at Hanazono University and serves as a Challenge Producer supported by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and has given lectures at many universities and school boards. Yamanaka has been featured on various media including TV, newspapers and magazines, and was introduced as one of Japan’s young social entrepreneurs in Asahi Newspaper.
