Michael Reich – Taro Takemi Research Professor of International Health Policy, School of Public Health, Harvard University

Michael R. Reich is the Taro Takemi Professor of International Health Policy at Harvard University, and Director of the Takemi Program in International Health at the Harvard School of Public Health. He has written widely about health and population policies of poor countries, the politics of policy-making, and access to medicines in developing countries. His books include: Island of Dreams: Environmental Crisis in Japan (with N. Huddle, 1975); Six Lives/Six Deaths: Portraits from Modern Japan (with R.J. Lifton and S. Kato, 1979); Toxic Politics: Responding to Chemical Disasters (1991); Public-Private Partnerships for Public Health (editor, 2002); and Wounds of War (with J. Lamb and M. Levy, 2004). Reich received his PhD in political science from Yale University and has been on the faculty at Harvard University since 1983. He lived in Japan from 1971-74 and has visited frequently since then.
