Tomoyuki Wada - CEO, Odaka Workers Base, Ltd.

Tomoyuki, an entrepreneur, returned to Odaka in Minami Soma, Fukushima after years working in Tokyo at a number of IT ventures, and continued to work for two companies in Tokyo while living in Odaka. He was evacuated as a result of the nuclear power plant meltdown, and in December 2012 resigned from the Tokyo-based companies to work at an incubation center in Aizu Wakamatsu City providing entrepreneurial support. In May 2014, he started the Odaka Workers Base project, the first shared office space in the evacuation zone. In anticipation of evacuees returning home in April 2016, he is focused on projects to support the lives of these individuals and is developing shared office space where residents and supporters can gather in Odaka. He also works with a local NPO to implement the “Odaka Tenshiki Project” to revive the silk and dye industry that used to exist in Odaka to provide jobs and engage returning residents. Additionally, he opened “Odaka no Hirugohan,” the first restaurant to open since the earthquake, and plans to open a temporary supermarket near Odaka Station in September.
