Valerie Casey - Founder, The Designers Accord & Head of Design, Walmart

Valerie Casey led the digital experience practice at IDEO, where she provided strategic leadership for client relationships. Valerie designed products, services, and business models for organizations around the world that create positive social and environmental impact. She specialized in working with companies and other organizations to understand, shape, and ultimately capitalize on their internal and external networks so they can address cultural, economic, social, and environmental challenges with greater agility.

Valerie founded the Designers Accord, the global coalition of designers, corporate leaders, and educational institutions focused on integrating sustainability into all practice and production. Over 100,000 designers and organizations from around the world participate in the Designers Accord.

Before taking on her current role at IDEO, Valerie was Executive Creative Director at frog design, where she led the global design research and design strategy practices. Previously, Valerie was an Associate Partner at Pentagram Design, where she built the interaction design practice in San Francisco, and an Associate Creative Director at vivid studios.

Valerie’s work has been celebrated in multiple publications, and in 2008, she was named a Fast Company “Master of Design,” and a Fortune magazine “Guru You Should Know.”

Valerie lectures on design throughout the international community, and is an adjunct professor at California College of the Arts. She holds a master's degree in cultural theory and design from Yale University, and a BA from Swarthmore College.
