Language Center at Japan Society

Japan Society’s Language Center offers a variety of courses, workshops, and weekend intensives throughout the year in Japanese language, Shodo (Japanese calligraphy), English for native Japanese speakers (ESL), and Japanese-Language Teacher Training, among other special courses and workshops. Founded in 1972, we are the premier Japanese language center in New York City.

Language Center courses, workshops, and events are structured for adults age 16 or older. (Please see Education & Family Programs for offerings for younger students.)

Support for Japan Society's Toyota Language Center is provided, in part, by Mark F. Goldfield and Mary E. Hatch; Christopher Hong; Steven Giordano; Juan Ruiz Gomez; The Japan Foundation, Los Angeles; Frederick H. Katayama; and Dr. Bic Kanayjorn.
