GALLERY EVENT
Friday, January 17, 6–9 PM

Join our popular monthly mixer, in celebration of the exhibition Made in Tokyo: Architecture and Living, 1964/2020, which includes a docent-led tour at 7pm. Throughout the evening, enjoy complimentary snacks, drink specials, and a site-specific installation by Japanese artist Zai Nomura.

Free and open to the public, includes exhibition admission. Cash bar. Must be 21+ to drink alcohol.

Zai Nomura explores the liminal spaces he describes as “indecisive points” where the beginning meets the end. He situates his production in an indeterminate zone where media, object, and experience are fluid. Alluding to the ephemerality and vulnerability of time and the environment, Nomura’s work drifts between the natural and artificial, the static and dynamic, and often manifests as sculpture and photography. In this site-specific installation commissioned by Japan Society, Nomura employs both natural and synthetic materials to create an interactive installation about loss and grief on the 25th anniversary of the Great Hanshin earthquake (January 17, 1995), inviting viewers to engage the work on both a physical and intellectual level.

Zai Nomura is a current resident in the International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) in New York. He has exhibited work at the Aichi Triennale, Nagoya; Gallery aM, Tokyo, and ARTCOURT Gallery, Osaka.
