Talk & Tasting past event

Typically, Japanese-style cafés, kissaten, serve Western-influenced Japanese food such as katsusando (pork cutlet sandwich with a sweet and savory sauce) and spaghetti Neapolitan (spaghetti with ketchup, stir fried onions, ham and puréed tomato) as well as Western-influenced desserts. From traditional kissaten to more recent café styles like cat and manga cafés, each café has developed its own unique theme. Join us for a look and taste of kissaten with Boston University Professor Merry White, author of Coffee Life in Japan, who will discuss the history of the Japanese café’s past and present trends along with food and drinks traditionally served.

Followed by a tasting reception to experience kissaten. Tasting menu includes spaghetti Neapolitan, katsusando, and strawberry shortcake.

Tickets: $16 /$12 Japan Society members, students & seniors
