Japan Society has partnered with the White House Historical Association (WHHA) and Portland Japanese Garden to co-present an expert panel discussion on Japanese American sculptor Isamu Noguchi’s 1962 bronze sculpture Floor Frame, the first piece of Asian American art to be added to the White House art collection with support from the WHHA. The sculpture was installed at the east end of the Rose Garden on November 20, 2020. The discussion addresses Isamu Noguchi’s life experiences and achievements, his influence as an unconventional sculptor, the significance of the piece Floor Frame and what its installation means for U.S.-Japan relations.

The panel will be presented as the second of the two-panel event organized by the WHHA on "The History of Diverse Artists in the White House Collection" to be held on Tuesday, December 1, at 10 AM EST. The first panel highlights the women and artists of color who are represented in the White House Collection.
