three (est. 2009), an anonymous artist collective from Fukushima Prefecture, stayed in New York and worked at a temporary studio in the Gallery this July as the first invitees to Japan Society's Summer Artist Residency Program. Miraculously, during their month-long stay, they have created 555 works out of 555 Japanese and American comic and anime plastic figures, taking a cue from the number five in homage to the five boroughs of New York. Visitors can scan a QR code label for each artwork with their smartphones to discover what it looked like before it was melted down. Immerse yourself in the sea of transformed characters in this special exhibition.
Free admission during building operating hours.
three's residency in New York City is made possible, in part, by The Globus Family.
Transportation is generously provided by United Airlines.

Exhibitions at Japan Society are made possible in part by the Lila Wallace-Reader’s Digest Endowment Fund, Director's Circle members, and the Friends of the Gallery.
