CORPORATE PROGRAM

Japan and the World after the Quake

The lunch portion of this event is sold out.
Wednesday, March 23, 2011

Robert Dujarric, Ambassador Shigeyuki Hiroki, Paul Scalise.

From March 14–June 30, 2011:
50% of all admission sales will go to Japan Society's Earthquake Relief Fund.

Experts look at the immediate and long term impacts on Japan’s economy, society, and international relations after the March 11 earthquake, the strongest earthquake ever to hit Japan. The recent earthquake and resulting tsunamis have left thousands of people dead or missing, destroyed businesses and homes, and created the world’s worst nuclear crisis since the Chernobyl disaster in the Soviet Union 25 years ago. What will be the impact of the earthquake on Japan’s fragile government and economic recovery? What will it mean for the future of Japan and its international relations? And how can the world help?

This panel was originally scheduled to examine Japan’s relationship with the world and possible isolation. That specific topic will be addressed at a panel organized at a later date.

Panelists:
Robert Dujarric
, Director, Institute of Contemporary Asian Studies, Temple University, Japan Campus
Ambassador Shigeyuki Hiroki, Consul General of Japan in New York
Takashi Imamura, Vice President & General Manager, Marubeni America Corporation, Washington, D.C.
