『ラーマーヤナ ラーマ王子伝説』
In-Person Screening

Friday, January 20, 7 pm ET

East Coast Premiere of 4K Remaster. A rarely screened Indo-Japanese anime co-production, Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama took nearly a decade to complete. A collaboration between producer Koichi Sasaki, animation legend Ram Mohan, and director Yugo Sako, Ramayana adapts the Sanskrit epic into a beautifully realized animated gem, featuring hand-drawn cel animation from Studio Ghibli. In Ayodhya, the royal palace of the Kosala Kingdom in ancient India, four princes were born to three queens. Banished from the palace for 14 years due to court intrigue, Prince Rama retreats to the forest with his beautiful wife Sita. After Rama vanquishes the demons of the forest, he invites the wrath of the demon king Ravana, and Sita is kidnapped—culminating in a climactic battle that will decide the fate of the kingdom.

Dir. Ram Mohan, Yugo Sako, Koichi Sasaki, 1992, 135 min., DCP, Color, in English and Sanskrit. With Nikhil Kapoor, Raell Padmasee, Uday Mathan.
