It is with great sadness that we share the news of Jiro Murase’s passing on Tuesday, August 5 in New York City, at the age of 86. Mr. Murase, one of the most highly respected and prominent lawyers and advisors working U.S.-Japan relations, was a supporter and friend of Japan Society for nearly four decades. He served on the Japan Society Board of Directors from 1978 to 2005, when he became a Life Director. Mr. Murase contributed enormously to Japan Society, and played an important role as a leader of the Japanese and American business communities, holding significant positions in a number of civic, professional and educational institutions. We extend our deep condolences to his son and Japan Society Board member Satoru Murase, daughter-in-law Hiroko, daughter Miwa Murase De Bourbon, and their families. The family of Jiro Murase has graciously asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Japan Society in his memory. We are very moved by their generosity and have established the “Jiro Murase Memorial Fund.” Ways to Donate By check: Mail checks to: Online donations may be made here by selecting the General Operating Support/Annual Fund category.
