時空を繋ぐ ~ Connecting Across Space and Time

Fall 2020—Spring 2021

Japan Society’s 2021 theme, 時空を繋ぐ ~ Connecting Across Space and Time, will encompass all program areas of the institution. Our multidisciplinary program will reaffirm the historic, artistic, cultural, societal, and technological connections between Japan and the U.S. and extend across geographic boundaries to a new global community. Worldwide audiences will experience Connecting Across Space and Time through a suite of virtual programs, as a hybrid of online and conventional programs return in 2021.

Two variations on this theme will encourage the public to engage in the U.S.-Japan relationship that has been at the heart of our mission for over a century. The first, 時空を繋ぐ~Connecting with Science and Technology, will introduce an eclectic program of STEM, arts and design, and business events to illuminate the ways in which science and technology connect us in a pandemic world.

The second, 時空を繋ぐ~Across Generations, celebrates the masterful traditions and techniques that have survived for centuries to provide comfort and meaning to our lives. Each project will be complemented by ancillary programs to provide context and perspective, deepening the educational value. By offering a multi-faceted series of overlapping and echoing variations on the theme, Connecting Across Space and Time, we hope to attract and educate a broad, global audience and to nurture the next generation of leaders in U.S.-Japan relations.
