Through the Japan Earthquake Relief Fund, Japan Society supports the work of organizations working on relief and recovery in Tohoku. In an effort to broaden the experience of the leaders of these organizations and to contribute to their professional growth, Japan Society organized a week long program for five leaders to examine community and economic revitalization in and around New York City.
Additionally, Japan Society co-organized a public forum in collaboration with the Joseph C. Cromwell Center for Metropolitan Studies, School of Public Affairs and Administration, Rutgers University in Newark, New Jersey where the leaders from Japan spoke about their work and engaged with students and local leaders in Newark. An invitational forum was held at Japan Society, and included individuals who have a direct interest in what is happening in Tohoku today, and have traveled to the region, support programs in the region, or contributed to the Society’s Japan Earthquake Relief Fund.
