The U.S.-Japan Innovators Network co-organized a series of workshops to write and publish the first book on managing disaster recovery with three members from the Learning from Disaster : Miyakejima and New Orleans project: Yasushi Aoyama, Meiji University, Ed Blakely, University of Sydney and Roland Anglin, Rutgers University. In October 2010, Roland Anglin hosted a group of experts, with experience from around the world, for the first workshop at Rutgers University where we laid out the chapters for the book and writing responsibilities. During the second workshop, hosted by Yasushi Aoyama in Tokyo and Kyoto, Japan in May 2010, chapter drafts began. Then in October 2010, participants were hosted by Ed Blakely, University of Sydney, in Sydney and Melbourne, Australia where the manuscript was reviewed and edited.

was published in 2011 by Crisis Response Publications.
