2021 Spring Japanese Courses

Please Note: These courses will be conducted online via Zoom, and are a temporary substitute for our in-person courses due to COVID-19. To participate fully, you will need access to a device with internet, microphone, and camera (such as a laptop, smartphone, or tablet).  Further instructions will be emailed to you the business day before your class begins. At the moment, registration is only accepted online (recommended) or by phone, and we are only taking payment in the form of credit or debit cards (no checks or cash). Acceptance will be acknowledged by email.

Course Information

Thirteen levels of Japanese are offered this spring, from beginner to advanced, emphasizing conversation, listening, reading and writing. Four kanji courses and other specialized courses, such as Japanese Society Through Manga and Culture + Current Topics, are also offered.

Students must be 16 or older to register for the courses, or 15 or older for the Casual Japanese through Anime course.

Registrants will receive course information by email from language_inquiries@japansociety.org or language@japansociety.org on:
  • the afternoon of Friday, January 22, 2021 (for classes beginning on Monday, January 25)
  • the afternoon of Monday, January 25, 2021 (for classes beginning on Tuesday, January 26)
  • the afternoon of Tuesday, January 26, 2021 (for classes beginning on Wednesday, January 27)
  • the afternoon of Wednesday, January 27, 2021 (for classes beginning on Thursday, January 28)
  • the afternoon of Thursday, January 28, 2021 (for classes beginning on Friday, January 29)

Not sure where to begin? New Language Center students with no previous background in Japanese should enroll in a Level 1 course. Students with some background should refer to the Level Guide or course textbooks to determine the most appropriate class. There is no placement exam. If you are still not sure of your level, it may be possible to schedule a level assessment by phone with the Director. Please email language@japansociety.org to schedule.

PLEASE NOTE

Tuition is non-refundable and non-transferable (including for credit) for any reason after 12 pm, the business day before your class starts. All refunds are subject to a $20 service charge, including those requested by the deadline date. No partial registration or auditing is permitted. Please note that cancellations are accepted by phone only. Cancellations via e-mail are not accepted. Japan Society reserves the right to cancel any course if sufficient enrollment is not obtained. In such a case, students already enrolled will receive full refunds. Students must be 16 or older to register for courses, or 15 or older for the Casual Japanese through Anime course.
