Summer may be over in New York but a warm tropical breeze blows throughout Japan Society this fall! Throughout this three-month special series, New Yorkers will have the opportunity to experience the unique sounds, flavors, colors and history of Japan's southern island chain, Okinawa.




Family Program


In this Uki Uki Chat, Japan Society Language Center instructor Kurahara-sensei discusses the islands of Okinawa and their distinct languages and dialect with Okinawan dancer and singer, Ms. Junko Fisher.

Take a sneak peak into the elegant dances and lively music of Okinawa.


Traditional Dance from Okinawa with Live Music and Okinawa Dance & Music Workshop + Onnagata Demonstration is supported by Okinawa Prefecture, Okinawa Prefectural Foundation for Cultural Promotion (Program for Okinawan culture in fiscal year 2015) with the assistance of Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts and Theater Create Co., Ltd.
Okinawan food and beverages available during Paradise View reception with the cooperation of the Okinawa Prefectural Government.

Talks planned as part of Okinawan Vibes are co-organized by the Okinawa Prefectural Government.
