Past Event Highlight: 2015 Japan Society Gallery Benefit Auction

During a warm spring evening on April 29, over 150 patrons, new and seasoned collectors, and lovers of art and Japan flocked into the 2015 Japan Society Gallery Benefit Auction.

Amidst blooming crabapple branches, guests enjoyed rosé bubblies while viewing works by such artists as Daido Moriyama, Kohei Nawa, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Tsukioka Yoshitoshi and Utagawa Kuniyoshi. The reception was followed by an intensely exciting live auction with auctioneer Henry Howard-Sneyd of Sotheby’s, who kept the bidders and participants on their toes. The first lot, an artwork by Yayoi Kusama, was sold over four times its estimated value and started the bidding frenzy for the rest of the event. The excitement continued during the silent auction, and as the evening wrapped up, guests left with artworks, smiles and memories of a fine evening.

Our most sincere thanks go to everyone who came and contributed to this successful auction; all proceeds from the event support Japan Society’s exhibitions and related public and educational programs.
