Past Event Highlight: Patron Visit to Yoshinaga Gallery and Fergus McCaffrey

On Saturday, September 12, Circle of Friends members were invited to a private walkthrough of Kazuo Kitai: Students, Workers, Villagers 1964-1978 at Miyako Yoshinaga Gallery and Hitoshi Nomura at Fergus McCaffrey, New York. Ms. Miyako Yoshinaga eruditely explained the stories behind the black-and-white photographs, selected by Mr. Kitai himself—works that originated as reportage and revealed the shifting social landscapes of Japan during the period. At Fergus McCaffrey, members had a special treat as Mr. Nomura himself was present to talk about his works and the ideas behind them. Artworks by Mr. Kitai and Mr. Nomura are featured in For a New World to Come: Experiments in Japanese Art and Photography, 1968-1979, currently on view at Japan Society Gallery and Grey Art Gallery. We hope that our guests had an insightful experience, and look forward to seeing our Friends at the next outing!
