Past Event Highlight: Yoko Ono: One Woman Show, 1960-1971 at MoMA

On August 26, Circle of Friends members had a very special occasion to walk through the exhibition Yoko Ono: One Woman Show, 1960-1971 at The Museum of Modern Art with Jon Hendricks, Fluxus Consulting Curator of the Gilbert and Lila Silverman Fluxus Collection, and Francesca Wilmott, Curatorial Assistant, Department of Drawings and Prints, MoMA. The museum was closed to the public at the time of the event, providing an intimate and exclusive opportunity to contemplate on the works, and Jon and Francesca presented new insights and historical facts that deepened our understanding of this pioneering and thought-provoking artist and her oeuvre. Japan Society is especially proud to continue promoting Ono’s career. We presented her first American retrospective in 2000, Yes Yoko Ono, curated by Alexandra Munroe in consultation with Jon himself. We featured her painting at the 2014 Gallery Benefit Auction, specially created for the occasion, and honored her with a Japan Society Award at the 2015 Annual Dinner. We thank our patrons who participated in this event, and hope to see you at our next outing!
