As you near your membership expiration, we send out renewal notifications in the mail with renewal information enclosed which you can also return by mail in our prepaid envelope.
Yes. If you would like to send a membership to someone as a gift, you can call our Membership office at (212) 715-1270, and a representative will assist you. Please note that memberships take time to process so if you are hoping to have this gift in time for a special event, please give our team enough notice to accommodate your request. At least 10 business days is suggested.
Japan Society memberships are valid for one year as of the month you joined or renewed. The expiration date can be found on the back of your membership card. You can also call our Membership office at (212) 715-1270 or email at membership@japansociety.org to inquire.
It usually takes around 2-4 weeks for the new membership card(s) to arrive at your home. However, your membership will normally be activated either immediately, or within a few days of your joining, at which point you are entitled to enjoy all your benefits.
In order to purchase a discounted Student or Senior membership or a membership for a person who is disabled, our office has to verify your valid ID. To do this, please join in person at our Welcome Desk during regular business hours or call our Membership office directly at (212) 715-1270. You will be asked to send a scanned copy of your photo ID to membership@japansociety.org.
Yes, you are still entitled to enjoy all your benefits without your membership card, as long as your current membership is valid. To request your new membership card, please contact our Membership team at (212) 715-1270 or membership@japansociety.org. To visit without your card, simply present your membership number when visiting our box office.
Your membership ID is listed on the back of your membership card. You can also find your ID on your online account, at the top right-hand corner, just next to your name.
Contributing members receive two Gallery guest passes and Sustaining members and above will receive four Gallery guest passes. These can be used for any exhibition and are valid until the expiration date listed on the back. Please note that Gallery admission is free for children under 16 years of the age.

Corporate members receive different benefits depending on the corporation’s membership level. Corporate membership does not necessarily include all of the same benefits as an Individual membership. Member Openings are members-only previews and receptions for the Japan Society Gallery’s exhibitions. Members have exclusive access to our exhibition before the public. All members receive an invitation by mail or email, and one guest is admitted.
To create an online account, please visit tickets.japansociety.org and look for the “Sign In” icon on the top right-hand side of the screen. Once you click “Join Now,” the system will walk you through the rest of the process to create an account. If you already have an account, be sure to log into that one to avoid creating duplicate records of yourself in our system. If you are having difficulty accessing an old account, you can click “Forgot Password” or you can contact our team and we can assist you.
Select the tickets and add them to your basket by clicking “Order Tickets.” If you are a member, don’t forget to sign in and choose “Member” as the Price Type before checkout, so you can receive a member discount. Members can purchase up to two tickets with a discounted price.

Yes, we are wheelchair and stroller accessible. Certain exhibitions and programs may require that guests leave strollers and large bags in our secure lockers or coat check area for the duration of your visit however.
Membership office hours are Monday to Friday, 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM by phone and email. We do not have drop-in access for the public however, so if you plan to visit in person please check our Box Office hours.
