Join us for a new installment of Spotlight, our online series with artists. Meet artist and fashion designer Susan Cianciolo, who will take us into her studio for a guided textile workshop. Across boundaries and media, much of Cianciolo’s work is defined by an ad-hoc practice of assembling found textiles, drawings, and even three-dimensional objects into tapestries and DIY kits, as well as employing them through collaborative performances. A selection of Cianciolo’s textiles are featured in Boro Textiles: Sustainable Aesthetics.

Previous experience not required. Materials needed: fabric flower; small piece of fabric (or any fabric scraps); needle; thread; scissors. Optional materials: beads; markers (fabric or regular); paints and brush; ribbons; elastic, hair clip, safety pin, or snap for attachment.

Program Details: To RSVP, please send your full name, email address, and phone number to [email protected]. The Zoom link will be sent one day before the event.

This event is part of Spotlight, a series highlighting artists and their practices through featured studio tours, live demos, Q&As, and more, exclusively for Japan Society membersNot a member? Join today to enjoy this event along with other upcoming Members-only virtual experiences!
